Hole

I cut my first hole in the bus. What a scarey moment. In  the process of hooking up plumbing, I had hooked up the hoses to the water pump. I used flexible hose to connect to the water pump because I had read that it will cut down on noise and vibration.

Here you see the top of the water pump. This is looking down from the top. The blue pipe running from the lower left then up next to the right of the pump is the supply hose from the fresh water tank. The flex hose that is exiting (as we are looking at it) the bottom of the pump turns turns to the left then up and around and into the one-way valve (it looks like an egg) then out to a T. The T directs the water through the T and out to shower, sink, and such. The T (where there is no hose attached yet is where the city water will hook into. It will also have a one-way valve to prevent water from going out of it when not hooked up to city water.
A closer look at the one-way valve and flex hose.

Other side of the water pump. I still have to get a filter to attach to the pump. I did not know it did not have one and or that I needed one until I read the owners manual.

This is a earlier pic of the rear drivers side of the bus to show the stop sign. I really wanted to keep it.

the sign unattached from the bus. The hot wire has power on all the time. I need to find some way to use it for some type of 12 v device. I cut the wire and taped them up.

Test fit.

not pretty, but this will be hid by the bed frame. I will probably make it look neater.

I took two 2X2's and secured them across the top and bottom with lots of silicone. I used one 2X2 on the left side and a 1X2 on the right as there was a support located there. If you look close to the right side of the opening you will see where I had originally set out to make the cut. I found out however the support and had to move the opening over to the left. Luckily I had not gotten to far with the cutting to make the move.
I was concerned about the possibility of moisture entering the wall of the bus, so I put the wood in for support and also lots of silicone to hopefully prevent water from entering.

Test Fit.

I used self tapping drywall screws. I think I will get some stainless screws and replace them.

Fill pipe connected.
The hoses will pass through the bed frame and through the floor inside the storage area inside the bed frame. I will have to disconnect the hoses, and remove the bed frame to access the water pump area.

Well that's it for now.

Update 042011

More work last week and this week. finished the cabinets (except for the tops), and started on the plumbing.

On the first cabinet face I used a drimmel, It did not turn out too good. This method work out a lot better. Used a jigsaw to cut out the corners.

Started on the plumbing. I'm using Plex pipe. Should be less splicing so less chance of leaks.

Used old water hose to protect through the studs and other places.

This is a peek at my new (possible) project. Could not pass it up for $1000.00, boat, 75hp Johnson, and trailer. We'll see.

041311 Bus Work

I framed out my shower (no pics) then started building my cabinets for the kitchen area. This is the first one I have ever tried.

One side is oak plywood (right) it will be sanded and stained because part of it will be seen next to the bench. the other is rough plywood. it will be next to the stove so I am not concerned about it looking nice. I may try to cover it with stainless steel as it will be easier to clean and protect the wood from heat.

It's hard to see but I measured and drew the drawers and doors and then cut them out with a drimmel tool. broke 5 bits in the process. Pain in the butt. Need to find a better way.

Test fit.

Got done and it was dark. Ill be attaching the face on the cabinet tomorrow, as well as build the other one.
Once I am done with the cabinets that will be a mile stone. I will be done framing the inside of the bus.Next it will be plumbing and electrical. I can't wait until I can take my first trip. This is one year that I have started working on the bus.
See ya next time.

Yeah more work

Started working on the dinette today. I framed one outside the bus and then discovered when I took it onto the bus that I have to adjust one side to make room for the fuel inlet cover that is on the passenger side. Once I do that, then I can start working on the other.

I am trying to incorporate the same storage in the dinette as I had in the bench seat.
Here it is when I was fitting it on the bus to discover I'll have to adjust the one side so it will fit over the fuel filler cover plate. The other one will be harder to build as it will be built on top of the passenger side front wheel well.
I will not have much counter space. Its looking like on the passenger side I'll have a single sink and maybe two feet of counter right behind the dinette. On the driver side will be about three feet of counter between the bench seat and stove.

I plan on doing most my cooking outside the bus with dutch oven.

Seat Work

I had to work on DDH today because I'll be working on Tuesday and Wednesday. I was able to work on the bench seat. Here are some pics.
This is the back rest. I tried to look at everything I build and wanted to figure out how to use every available space for possible storage. Here is what I came up with.
More storage.
The area under the bench will be for my electrical box and other electrical stuff first then possible storage.
I am going to cover this particle board with oak plywood. I just wanted a little more strength in the front.

Don't know if I will be able to work on DDH until next Tuesday, so until then...

More work today.

Got to work on DDH today. I was able to put the bottom in the upper bunk as well as cut and fit the tops to the bunk storage which is also where the foam mattress will be. I also started working on the bench seat behind the drivers seat. This should hold my electrical too.

I will be covering the front with oak plywood. Each bunk storage is about a foot deep.
Bottom bunk is 32in wide by 74.5in. Top is 31in wide by 74.5in.

I love my Kreag Jig. Took some time but my base is nice and sturdy.

This is as far as I got in 12 hours. I don't like to wast space, so I've got to figure out how to use the area in the back of the seat for storage.

Till next time.
